einBuch.haus is pleased to present the artist's books of Laure Catugier, tracing her engagement with the medium of the book from her first monograph and book-object, Architecture is Frozen Music (2022), to her most recent projects. Trained in architecture and visual art, Catugier treats the book not as a vessel for images but as a structure to be built, entered and rearranged. Her long-standing study of modernist architecture continues naturally in the structure of the book itself: line, surface, volume and perspective move freely between the architectural image and the page. This approach draws heavily on Oskar Hansen's theory of "Open Form," which Architecture is Frozen Music takes as its guiding principle, rejecting any fixed beginning, end or reading direction so that each reader finds their own way through the work.
Page ↔ Plan brings together Catugier's book projects developed through residencies in Romania (Sounds Like a Book, Sõna), France (Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris) and Taiwan, alongside her open-call submission to AMBruno, Rhythmn (2023) and Final (2025). On this occasion, einBuch.haus presents four new book projects: A Never-Ending Stone, STOIC, SPLIT and Autodafé. Each extends Catugier's investigation of the book as architecture. STOIC, made with artist Sujin Moon during a residency at Pier2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, binds photographs of the city's post-war architecture through cutting and folding alone, without glue or thread; A Never-Ending Stone takes its title from a 19th-century description of concrete and unfolds as a dos-à-dos structure with no fixed front or back.
Alongside the book projects, the exhibition presents for the first time Blueprint (2026), a series of printing works Catugier produced during her residency at Texture Printmaking Lab in Tainan, developed in dialogue with the city's architecture and political history. Together, these works present the book as a site where images gain volume, pages become structure, and reading becomes an act of physical navigation.

Laure Catugier
Born in 1982 in Toulouse, France. Lives and works in Berlin. Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture in Toulouse, the École des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse, and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (Decolonizing Architecture Advanced Studies Department).
Laure Catugier's artistic practice is grounded in the relationships between art and architecture, expressed through artist's books and site-specific installations. She engages in particular with post-war architecture, focusing on the globally pervasive use of concrete, which has contributed to a standardization of forms, norms and ways of use. In doing so, she questions prevailing social norms shaped by a patriarchal and colonialist worldview.
Since 2015, she has received numerous residency grants in Germany, Austria, Japan, Russia, Iran, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Bolivia, France, Romania and Taiwan. She is the recipient of the International Celeste Prize (2016) and the Herzog August Bibliothek Artist's Book Prize (2026). She has been nominated for the ADAGP Révélation Book Prize (2022), the International Allegro Prize (2022) and the Bob Calle Prize in Paris (2025), and has received publication grants including from the KAI10 Arthena Foundation, the Berlin Senate (2025) and KUNSTFONDS Publikation (2026). She has also held fellowships with the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt Berlin (2017), the Pilecki Institute in Warsaw (2019), the Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn (Work Grant, 2020), and the Berlin Senate (Research Grant, 2025). A forthcoming 1% art project in Toulouse (2028) is currently in preparation.
Her work has been exhibited internationally: at the Tainan Public Library and TNAM (Taiwan); The Reference and Total Museum (Seoul); Liebling Haus – White City Center (Tel Aviv); In Sonora Festival (Madrid); Artum Foundation (Warsaw); Łaźnia Center for Contemporary Art (Gdańsk, PL); Centraltrack Gallery (Dallas, US); in Berlin at ZKU, Galerie Weisser Elefant, the German-Japanese Cultural Center and the Korean Cultural Center; at the Stadtmuseum and the Institut Français in Düsseldorf; at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen; at "Jeune Création" at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac and at Voltaire Mécénat Emerige in Paris; at the OXO Tower (London); and at Arte Fiera Bologna.
