On February 22, 2025, I found the cartridge of a rubber bullet that had been left behind during police training on Tai A Chau Island in Hong Kong.
On May 15, I swallowed the cartridge and requested an X-ray at Kwong Wah Hospital.

The book documents the performative work ‘digesting evidence’. It consists of a hanging folder containing a documentary diary, a copy of the medical report, a copy of the x-ray image, and a gummy in the shape of the swallowed cartridge.

The rubber bullet stems from a police training exercise, presumably held in 2023, which also included practice in the use of tear gas.
Tai A Chau was the site of a riot in 1989, when it was still a camp for Vietnamese refugees, due to a lack of food rations. At that time, the police were only able to regain control the following morning with the help of British soldiers.
Collecting used tear gas canisters and rubber bullets is illegal in Hong Kong. In 2021, a person was convicted for illegally possessing 38 used tear gas canisters from the 2019 protests.
