Bookbinder and Workshop Leader
Julia Fabricius (born 1993 in Gothenburg, Sweden) works as a book designer and illustrator and assists in a book bindery. She moved to Berlin from New York more than 7 years ago, where she was studying fine arts and art history at Brooklyn College. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Design in 2018, and after that, she studied book history at Lund University, Sweden, and did an internship at Buchbinderei Klünder, Berlin. In 2021 she started to give online classes in bookbinding and drawing for kids through the digital platform The Yellow Elefant.
Lea Giesecke is a graphic designer with a focus on print. She loves working with paper and gives bookbinding workshops. During her master's degree, she dealt intensively with the haptic experience of books, resulting in the BookBindingKit (BuchBauKasten) - a poster and cards with detailed information about bookbinding techniques.

Kollektiv's Review
Julien Villaret1:1 workshop participantWith Julia, we explored bookbinding and bookmaking using algae paper, combining editorial expertise, experimentation, and craftsmanship. This highly enriching dialogue resulted in ten unique, organic, and vibrant works, some of which have been added to prestigious collections (New York Public Library) and others have been exhibited in Art Book fairs in Berlin and abroad, attesting to the richness and originality of this collective effort.
Irene Lauro1:1 workshop participantThe 1:1 workshop with Julia was incredibly helpful, and I highly recommend it to anyone starting out in editorial design and bookbinding or feeling unsure about their artist book concept. She combines a strong critical perspective with hands-on support, constantly questioning ideas while offering concrete solutions, fresh impulses, and motivating energy. The editing process and developing the color palette were especially valuable, as they opened up new ways of thinking about my material. I would suggest booking more than one session, since the real impact unfolds over time; overall, the workshop was not only practically useful but also mentally clarifying and inspiring.
