Offenes Buch
Since autumn 2024, Christina Schmid and Ina Schneider have been engaged in an ongoing dialogue around shared themes such as paper, folding, the book, time, place, and transformation. The starting point were texts by Christina Schmid in which Ina Schneider spontaneously marked “her” lines in orange—words that spoke to her. These text fragments formed the core of a joint exhibition.
Now the two artists continue this dialogue as the lines condense into 100 titles for open, still empty books. Shifting fragments that tell ever new stories, taking on different meanings for the person who continues writing, drawing, or thinking within them. The fine dot grids, hand-drawn by the artists, provide a subtle structure for “impossibly many finitudes.”
The dust jacket turns each book into a unique piece: an individual title on the spine, paired with the abstract form of the corresponding orange marking from the text on the cover. A fold-out bookmark gathers all 100 titles as a list inside the book.
