Deviations
In her multichannel films, the multimedia artist Josephin Böttger (b. Hamburg, 1965; lives and works in Hamburg) initiates meticulously choreographed image interferences and lets her aesthetic interventions into public settings collide with the vagaries of chance. The urban environment becomes a resonance chamber for images and sounds that interact with the architecture and alter our perceptions of it. Böttger’s immersive film assemblages reflect and condense the acceleration of the present, what the media critic Paul Virilio analyzed as the condition of a world seized by a dynamic of relentless progress: a world-in-disintegration illuminated by the scattered light of digital devices that inexorably approaches its utter dissipation.
Deviations reconstructs the temporary transformation of public settings by Josephin Böttger’s performative and audiovisual interventions. With contributions by Belinda Grace Gardner, Matthew Partridge, Ifee Tack, Felix Kubin, and the artist.
