Das Projekt Book Nomad ist eine Initiative der abC (art book in China) Art Book Fair. Mit dem Fokus auf „Asianness“ beteiligen sich Akteur*innen der Künstlerbuchszene aus verschiedenen Städten mit einer eigenen Auswahl an Kunstpublikationen, die verschiedene kulturelle Perspektiven offenbaren.
Das Projekt folgt dem kuratorischen Motto „Nomadic and Imagined“ und wird in Form einer wachsenden Wanderausstellung gezeigt: einBuch.haus präsentiert insgesamt 47 Bücher, wovon 42 Bücher von den vorherigen Teilnehmer*innen ausgewählt und bereits in deren Räumlichkeiten ausgestellt wurden. Nach dem Konzept von Book Nomad nimmt einBuch.haus 5 weitere Publikationen von lokalen Künstler*innen und Verleger*innen in die Bücherliste auf, die zusammen mit den anderen Publikationen auch in den nachfolgenden Ausstellungsorten gezeigt und weiter ergänzt werden.
Insbesondere seit der Pandemie fördert abC die Zusammenarbeit und den Austausch mit internationalen Art Publishing Communities. Mit Book Nomad sollen innovative, unabhängige Kunstpublikationen aus China und anderen Ländern einem globalen Publikum zugänglich gemacht und die Möglichkeiten des unabhängigen Publizierens und des Vertriebs im Eigenverlag erkundet werden.
The Book Nomad project is initiated by abC (art book in China) Art Book Fair. Focusing on “Asianness,” actors of the artists’ book scene from different cities participate with their own selection of art publications, revealing different cultural perspectives.
The project follows the curatorial motto “Nomadic and Imagined” and is shown in the form of a growing traveling exhibition: einBuch.haus presents a total of 47 books, 42 of which were selected by the previous participants and already exhibited in their spaces. Following the concept of Book Nomad, einBuch.haus includes 5 more publications by local artists and publishers to the book list, which will be shown and further added together with the other publications in the following exhibition venues as well.
Especially since the pandemic, abC has been promoting collaboration and exchange with international art publishing communities. Through Book Nomad the initiative aims to bring cutting-edge, independent art publications from China and other countries to a global audience and explore the possibilities of independent publishing and distribution through self- practice.

abC Art Book Fair
Founded in 2015, abC is dedicated to promoting local artists’ books and independent publications in China as well as introducing excellent global publishers and institutions to establish a profound multilateral dialogue. As the most professional exhibition of artist’s books and expo of independent publications, abC Art Book Fair takes place in Beijing and Shanghai respectively. It has been developing a distinct influence in the fields of contemporary art, design, and publishing, welcoming thousands of publishers, media platforms, and visitors around the world.
