Mareike Jacobi
Mareike Jacobi makes drawings. She creates her works with an aleatory form-finding process. Following predefined rules, the drawings are executed almost automatically by the artist. Jacobi is interested in how her conscious decisions, unconscious preferences or something like her personal handwriting appear within this narrowly defined framework. She associates the visual pattern with the concept of “pattern of thought”.
Mareike Jacobi's work has been on view at the SaRang Building in Jogjakarta, Indonesia (2017), Haus am Kleistpark in Berlin (2019), and at Berlin Paper Positions (2020). She was a fellow of the Goldrausch Künstlerinnen Projekt scholarship in 2019. Her artist book "Pattern Book" was published by Revolver Publishing in 2020. Her latest artist book, "Algorithm and Intuition," in which the artist invites other individuals for the first time to draw with her with her according to her set of rules, will be released in the summer of 2023 by the Berlin-based gallery einBuch.haus. Mareike Jacobi lives and works in Berlin.
