In her multichannel film compositions, Hamburg multimedia artist Josephin Böttger sets into motion precise visual disruptions, confronting her aesthetic concepts with the imponderables of chance. Her immersive film assemblages reflect and condense the acceleration of reality that media critic Paul Virilio diagnosed as the state of a world seized by the unstoppable dynamic of progress: a world-in-dissolution, irrevocably speeding towards complete obliteration in the scattered light of digital technology.

Josephin Böttger

The Hamburg-based video artist Josephin Böttger initially produced experimental short films. Since graduating from the HfBK Hamburg in 2002, she has mainly conceived her works for multi-channel video installations, shown at international exhibitions and projections in public spaces. In her video works, she interweaves drawings and real images, documentary footage and filmed performances to create a loose narrative, olen centering on the themes of architecture and time. Public spaces are among her favorite fields of action; the specific characteristics of the urban environment become part of her mobile projections and video performances.
