THIS WAY LILI

"When I get up, two eyes are already staring at me. Lili’s whole body wiggles the moment I look at her. Patiently, she watches me get out of bed, brush my teeth, wash my face, and then, with tired eyes, slide into my pants, shirt, jacket and shoes, grab the collar and leash, and announce our morning walk. A moment later, Lili, struggling to control her excitement, rushes to the entrance of our apartment, returns to me, and hurries back to the door. She waits. When my fingers touch the handle, she lifts a paw as if to help, scratching at the edge of the door.

We descend the stairs, cross the backyard, pass through the large door of our building and step out onto the pavement."
