The BOOK BOOK Handbook
The BookBook Handbook is both the official catalog and a publication of the BookBook Festival, held at the Goethe-Institut Korea from September 11 to 14, 2025. More than a simple event guide, it has been conceived as a book that documents and critiques the present state of independent publishing in Asia and beyond. It features introductions to the 50 books exhibited in the Reading Room, information about the participating publishers, and interviews with 13 publishing houses.
With its rich blend of images and texts, it vividly illustrates the conditions and possibilities in which publishing practices are situated. The writings and conversations within the book reveal how publishing has been experimenting with new modes of distribution, shared experiences, and ways of building relationships—through platforms such as book fairs, reading rooms, and exhibitions. The voices of publishers active across Asia and in diasporic contexts connect different backgrounds and encourage us to imagine alternative futures. The BookBook Handbook weaves together these moments of practice, recording the networks and dialogues that expand through the medium of publishing.
