Annotations from the Unknown
Annotations from the Unknown is a photobook in which images emerge through text.
It is composed of the marginalia of anonymous readers: handwritten notes and underlinings found in books borrowed from Hong Kong’s public libraries, second-hand bookshops, and private bookshelves.
Each page reproduces the original dimensions and paper tone of the source material. As the pages turn, the printed text and annotations begin to interact, forming new narratives.
In the absence of photographs, text becomes the trigger for visual memory.
