Yes, BOOK! is a risograph zine created in response to Atelier HOKO’s exhibition BOOK?. The exhibition explored the relationship between books and readers, opening up a space to reconsider the act of reading and the materiality of media around the question, “What is a book?” By experimenting with how books and readers encounter one another in space, the exhibition ultimately demanded an answer from the material and sensory qualities of the book itself.
Yes, BOOK! carries the captions of 18 works presented in the exhibition, along with drawings made by Atelier HOKO during the preparation process, weaving together the contexts before and after the exhibition into a single printed form. Produced with risograph printing, the zine responds once more to the exhibition’s questions through the textures of ink and paper, extending the experience of the exhibition into the temporal and material domain of the book. It also includes views of the exhibition as presented at TOKIO ART BOOK FAIR and at the cultural complex SKWAT Kameari Art Centre in Tokyo.
