Books to Do is not the usual monograph, it’s a meta-book about already realized and yet to be realized book projects by Albert Coers in the form of a to-do list. It is a collection of ideas and subjects, a self-documentation, self-stimulation, and a joyfully utopian agenda at the same time. But regardless of whether they are real or fictional, Coers' projects all have one thing in common: they are not only very clever, but also funny conceptual works that approach the topics of language, writing, and books in ever new ways.
ALBERT COERS (*1975) studied, among other, German language, and art history in Pisa as well as fine arts at the AdBK Munich. His work focuses on found objects, language-related material and the publication of artists' books. He lives and works in Berlin and Munich.
Books to Do ist keine übliche Werkmonografie, sondern ein Meta-Buch über bereits realisierte und noch zu realisierende Buchprojekte von Albert Coers in Form einer To-do-Liste. Es ist Ideen- und Stoffsammlung, Dokumentation, Selbst-Anregung und lustvoll utopisches Arbeitsprogramm zugleich. Doch egal, ob real oder fiktiv, eines haben die Projekte von Coers alle gemeinsam: Es sind nicht nur überaus kluge, sondern auch lustige konzeptuelle Werke, die sich auf immer wieder neue Weise den Themen Sprache, Schrift und Buch nähern.
ALBERT COERS (*1975) studierte unter anderem Germanistik und Kunstgeschichte in Pisa sowie bildende Kunst an der AdBK München. Im Zentrum seines Schaffens steht die Arbeit mit Fundstücken, mit sprachbezogenem Material und die Publikation von Künstlerbüchern. Er lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und München.
Albert Coers
Albert Coers' artistic work focuses on installations, conceptual photo and film works and artist's books using found objects and language-related material from inheritances, archives and libraries. He is interested in the book as a material and medium, so that in addition to a plastic-conceptual approach, artist's books make up a large part of his work; see e.g. (Salon, 2020), Schöppinger Schläger (Salon, 2021), Sacred Distancing (Argobooks, 2021, nominated for Prix Bob Calle 2023).
Schwerpunkte der künstlerischen Arbeit von Albert Coers sind Installationen, konzeptuelle Foto- und Filmarbeiten und Künstlerbücher unter Verwendung von Fundstücken und sprachbezogenem Material, aus Nachlässen, Archiven, Bibliotheken. Dabei interessiert ihn das Buch als Material und Medium, so dass neben einem plastisch-konzeptionellen Umgang Künstlerbücher einen großen Anteil seines Schaffens ausmachen; siehe z.B. Englisch-Wörter 1990/2020 (Salon, 2020), Schöppinger Schläger (Salon, 2021), Sacred Distancing (Argobooks, 2021, nominiert für Prix Bob Calle 2023).

Hatje Cantz is an publisher of illustrated books on art, architecture, photography, design, and visual culture, founded by Gerd Hatje in Stuttgart in 1945. The publishing house, which is now based in Berlin, is one of the leading international publishers of art books. Publisher and Managing Director is Nicola von Velsen.
Hatje Cantz ist ein Fachverlag für Kunst, Architektur, Fotografie, Design und visuelle Kultur, der 1945 von Gerd Hatje in Stuttgart gegründet wurde. Der heute in Berlin ansässige Verlag gehört zu den führenden Kunstbuchverlagen international. Verlagsleiterin und Geschäftsführerin ist Nicola von Velsen.
