The book is a one-to-one translation of the contents of four MiniSD memory cards I found at a junk market in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong. The sellers never checked them for data, so neither could I before buying them.
The left-hand pages present metadata, and the right-hand pages present content. Paper weight and colour correspond to file type, and any absent file type leaves no paper trace in the book. I followed the order in which the files appeared on my screen, but every translation leaves a fingerprint. The screenshots, sequencing, material choices, the way the files were viewed on my computer, and several deliberate inconsistencies remain as traces of a work assembled by a person, not a system.
All the cards were returned to the streets of Hong Kong, and the original files were deleted. What remains now exists only in the book. An SD card with no memory can also become a book, because the emptiness of a card found at a junk market represents its own kind of image.
